I'm a writer and critic whose work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Bookforum, the Awl, Tin House, Narrative, the Los Angeles Times, NPR, Granta, the Paris Review Daily, Swink, the New York Times Book Review, B&N Review, and many other publications. I received the 2009 Narrative Prize for an excerpt from the novel I'm still writing. Though best known as a book blogger, I post only sporadically these days, and the scope of things I've written about on the site I started in 2002, maudnewton.com, is and always has been pretty broad. Writing entails a lot of sitting, which apparently hastens dying, but hey, cheer up: at least we don’t have to hunch over a Chinese typewriter.

The main tray includes “about two thousand of the most frequent characters.” That’s “not nearly enough for literary and scholarly purposes,” though, so there are supplementary trays.
