Maud Newton

I'm a writer and critic whose work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Bookforum, the Awl, Tin House, Narrative, the Los Angeles Times, NPR, Granta, the Paris Review Daily, Swink, the New York Times Book Review, B&N Review, and many other publications. I received the 2009 Narrative Prize for an excerpt from the novel I'm still writing. Though best known as a book blogger, I post only sporadically these days, and the scope of things I've written about on the site I started in 2002, maudnewton.com, is and always has been pretty broad. This handwritten draft of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, on display for the first time, is way more exciting than her annotated copy of the novel—which, like Twain’s bones, I’ve often fantasized about stealing. (via thepointedword.)
But I’m sure people will still somehow find a way to argue that her husband is the true author. Never mind the evidence, she copied his notes, don’t you know.
